The Greencastle Summer Music Festival welcomes local singer/songwriter Bobbie Lancaster back to the Gobin United Methodist stage this week.

Wednesday's 7:30 p.m. concert will be the ninth event in a 13-week summer series that's mission is all about "friends making music for friends." The series brings internationally acclaimed classical, blues, folk and jazz artists to the Greencastle community.

The concerts are available to the public for free thanks to the support of local individuals and businesses, including the Inn at DePauw and the Putnam County Community Foundation.

Lancaster's music career has been lively and diverse. From the Kerrvile Folk Festival and folk music circuit, to the Chicago Theater district, to writing and performing for children, she has always found value in diverse musical communities. With nine albums to her credit, Lancaster's music over the past 15 years clearly tells the story of a life full of transparency with an abundance of twists and turns.

"My songs are simply chapters in the story of my life that tell of a spiritual journey," she explains.

That journey has led Lancaster to becoming a member of the Greencastle community and serving as the worship leader at Greencastle Christian Church.

Lancaster moved to Greencastle five years ago with her husband, Jeff, and their two children. Shortly after the move, Bobbie decided to put an end to the touring lifestyle in order to focus more on her family and her new community. She has quickly become a pillar in the Greencastle music community by sharing her artistic vision and administrative talents.

During her time with the Greencastle Civic League, she revitalized the weekly ParkFest concerts at Robe-Ann Park. This summer, Lancaster has taken on the role as artistic director, assisting festival founder and artistic director Eric Edberg in diversifying the artist lineup within the Greencastle Summer Music Festival series.

During Wednesday night's performance Lancaster will be joined by several of her dear friends as she shares her songs and stories in her first full performance at the Greencastle Summer Music Festival.

The Greencastle Summer Music Festival is in its 12th season of free concerts every Wednesday at 7:30 through Aug. 17 in the sanctuary of Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church.
