Sunday 2-car crash on I-70 results in only minor injuries

PUTNAMVILLE -- A crash that sent two vehicles spinning out of control on Interstate 70 Sunday afternoon resulted only in minor injuries for one of the four people involved.

At 3:22 p.m., officers were dispatched to the crash near the eastbound 37-mile marker.

Debra Ferris of Terre Haute had been eastbound in the passing lane in a Ford Escape. Robert McLaughlin of Philadelphia was eastbound in the right lane in a Toyota Camry.

Putnam County Sheriff's Deputy Scott Ducker reported that McGlaughlin apparently tried to enter the passing lane but was too close to the Ferris vehicle, striking its right rear panel.

This spun both vehicles out of control.

Ferris's vehicle entered the ditch of the median and rolled over at least once, coming to rest in a pile of brush.

McLaughlin's Toyota went to the right and entered the ditch on the south side of the interstate, rolling over at least once before coming to rest.

Paramedics assessed all occupants of the vehicles, but all were cleared at the scene.

McLaughlin sustained minor injuries. Neither Ferris nor her two children were hurt in the accident. McLaughlin's dog was in his car and was also not injured.

The interstate was shut down for about 30 minutes in order to complete the investigation and allow paramedics to treat the occupants.

Responders to the crash included Putnam County Operation Life, Cloverdale Fire Department, Cloverdale Police Officer David Luke Brown and PCSD Deputy Virgil Lanning.
