City Police seeking public's help in catching two thieves

Tuesday, July 19, 2016

Images taken from store surveillance video are a little grainy. The suspects' age and size isn't readily apparent. And the vehicle they were driving is of uncertain make and model.

Yet Greencastle City Police officials believe the sum of that evidence is greater than its individual parts and that someone in the public is likely to piece together the man, the woman and the gold mini-van in question into an actual identity.

The white male and white female are suspects in the theft of a credit card that occurred in downtown Greencastle during the First Friday festivities on July 1.

"They busted out a car window and took the purse," Det. Sgt. Michael Collins explained, detailing an incident that occurred between 7 and 8 p.m. on the Old National Bank parking lot.

The suspects drove to Plainfield after stealing the credit card, Collins said.

The female suspect used the card that same night at the R.J. Convenience Store in Plainfield, while the male used it a short time later at Country Oil, a gas station on West Washington Street on the west side of Indianapolis.

The suspects purchased a carton of cigarettes and beer, totaling $150-$200 between the two stops.

"They tried to use it several other times," Det. Collins said, "but the card was declined."

The video images come from the Plainfield and Indianapolis stops. Although the pictures aren't crystal clear, Collins believes there may be enough to produce an ID.

"We've done more with less before," he reasoned, "so we thought we might as well give it a try."

Among other things, the GPD detective said he thought the male suspect might be identified by the two-tone gray-and-white hat he was wearing at the time.

Anyone who might know the individuals in the photos is asked to contact Sgt. Collins at 848-1541 or 653-2925.
