BRAZIL -- The Brazil Concert Band, under the direction of Matthew S. Huber, will present "Hoosier Band: Hoagy, Gus and Fred" during the ongoing Indiana Bicentennial theme Sunday, July 31.

The 8 p.m. free concert is set for Forest Park, rain or shine.

Carmichael attended college at Indiana University, Davis' son Nelson was student director of the IU Band when Gus wrote "Greater Indiana" for the IU Bands and Jewell was appointed band director at IU but passed away shortly afterward.

The BCB will perform three works by Brazil's J. Gus Davis to include "Black Hawk Trail" where the family camped in Vigo County, "Bonita" a dance piece he wrote for his favorite niece and a fine overture "Crown of Life."

"Hoagy Carmichael: American Classic," arranged by Kessler, includes the Hoosier songwriter's best known hits "Heart and Soul," "Georgia on My Mind," "Lazy River" and "Star Dust."

William Kiefer (1872-1920) of Washington, Indiana was a public office holder and director of the Washington Band. His most famous march is "Kiefer's Special" published shortly after his death.

Fred Jewell actually left home and joined the Gentry's Bros. Dog and Pony show based in Bloomington at age16, thus launching his celebrated career as a circus euphonium player, composer and conductor. He dedicated "Gentry Bros. Triumphal" to his bosses.

Also in Sunday's lineup will be "English Suite" by Grundman, "The Golden Age of Broadway" by Rodgers, Disney's "Frozen" by Bulla and "The Northern Pines" by Sousa.
