Weliever's 99 paces Greencastle to sixth at Braves' Invitational

TERRE HAUTE -- Greencastle placed sixth in the Braves' Invitational girls' golf tournament on Tuesday for its first tournament appearance of the season.

The Tiger Cubs had opened the season on Monday with a dual-meet win over Monrovia.

Alex Weliever again led Greencastle, shooting a 99 to finish among the top 20 individuals.

Other scorers for the Tiger Cubs were Macey Masten with a 106, Lindsey Bridgewater with a 119, Gabby Selvia with a 137 and Rose White with a 143.

The team scoring was the closest in tournament history, with Terre Haute North's "A" team edging Vincennes Rivet by one stroke and Terre Haute South finishing one strike behind Rivet.

Team scores -- Terre Haute North Blue 346, Vincennes Rivet 347, Terre Haute South 348, Jasper 352, Terre Haute North Red 459, Greencastle 461, Northview 470, Linton 492.

Next match -- Greencastle will host North Putnam and Lebanon on Monday at Windy Hill.
