County Jail

Three people were booked in the Putnam County Jail on Thursday.

* At 8:14 p.m. Anthony Curtis Bauers, 33, Brazil, was lodged at the jail for driving while intoxicated, driving as a habitual traffic offender and on a local warrant.

* At 11:14 a.m. Jordan Ray West, 27, Indianapolis, was taken into custody for failure to appear.

* At 11:03 a.m. Clynt Allen Agee, 25, Poland, was booked in on a Marion County warrant.

Sheriff's Department

Putnam County sheriff's deputies responded to one recent property-damage crash.

At 5:23 p.m. on Tuesday, Rachael L. Curtis, 53, Greencastle, was eastbound on County Road 50 South in a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. Travis G. Gray, 27, Fillmore, was also eastbound in a 1998 Chevrolet pickup.

Curtis told Capt. Tom Helmer she was looking for a friend's residence and had slowed to turn right into a private drive. She said her turn signal was activated but that she was rear-ended by the Gray vehicle.

Curtis also said that Gray had been tailgating her.

Gray told Helmer he was simply following Curtis and she did not activate her turn signal. He added that he had no time to react when her vehicle slowed.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

City Police

One recent citation was issued by Greencastle City Police officers.

* At 11:31 p.m. Tuesday, Robert Cannon, 23, Brazil, was stopped by Officer Brad Hiatt at Bloomington Street and Veterans Memorial Highway.

Cannon was cited for an infraction of driving with a suspended license.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department recently responded to eight dispatches and six medical assists.

* At 6:52 p.m. on July 28, GFD responded to a smoke scare at 712 Highridge Ave. The resident was evidently burning junk mail in the fireplace which created large amounts of smoke.

* At 3:44 a.m. on July 29, GFD cleared a tree from the roadway at 1255 County Road 200 West.

* At 12:23 p.m. on Saturday, GFD assisted the Floyd Township Fire Department with the extinguishment of a structure fire at 12 Mill Springs at Heritage Lake.

* At 12:50 p.m. on Sunday, GFD responded to a smoke scare at 105 Autumn Glen (within the assisted living facility). An electrical short within an wall outlet sparked, causing smoke to emit from the device. GFD turned off the power to the outlet and called in an electrician to resolve the issue.

* At 5:31 p.m. on Monday, GFD responded to a smoke scare at 852 Indianapolis Rd. A ceiling fan had reportedly become hot and emitted smoke, though there was no smoke visible upon arrival. GFD shut off power to the fan and called in an electrician to resolve the issue.

* At 8:47 p.m. on Monday, GFD performed an odor investigation at the intersection of Jackson and Depot streets. Nearby residents believed it was an odor of natural gas but GFD determined the smell was produced by nearby sewage as no gas was ultimately detected.

* At 3:53 p.m. on Thursday, GFD assisted in the cleanup of fluids and debris from a motor-vehicle accident at the intersection of Zinc Mill and South streets.

* At 6:05 p.m. on Thursday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 407 S. Jackson St. The alarm was determined to have been set off unnecessarily.
