Russell Herbert Long

Russell Herbert Long, 85, passed away on Monday, Aug. 15, 2016 at his home in Greencastle, surrounded by family.

Russell was born on July 3, 1931 in Belle Union to the late William Sr. and Macy (Lane) Long.

He married Doris Jean Baldwin on July 17, 1950.

Russell worked at Lone Star Industries for 44 years before he retired in 1995.

In his free time he enjoyed woodworking, especially making furniture.

He is preceded in death by his grandson, Jeremy Lee Bunten; five brothers, Robert Long, William Long Jr., Joseph F. Long, Ralph Long and Charles Long; and sisters, Nellie F. Dickey and Mary York.

Russell is survived by his wife of 66 years, Doris Jean Long.

He was a loving father to Debbie (Long) Landrum and spouse (Myron), Rick Long and fiancé (Cindy Morris), Anita Long and companion Kenneth Kenner; 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and his dog, Autumn Rose, as well as extended family and friends.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18 at Forest Hill Cemetery with Pastor Bobby Hopper officiating. Burial will follow.
