I-70 to be closed overnight Wednesday, Thursday west of Putnam

Monday, August 22, 2016

Putnam County drivers are advised that the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has announced overnight closures this week on Interstate 70 between State Road 46 (Exit 11) and State Road 59 (Exit 23).

The closures will allow INDOT's contractor to strengthen the shoulder and replace guardrail damaged during recent crashes.

The plan is to close I-70 westbound on Wednesday, Aug. 24 and eastbound on Thursday, Aug. 25 between 12:01 a.m. until 5 a.m.

The Indiana State Police will be assisting with the closures and detouring traffic along State Road 59 and State Road 46.

The contractor currently has the right lane closed in each direction between the 13.5-mile marker and the 14.5-mile marker while working on the bridges over Tabertown Street and Honey Creek.

American Contracting and Services was awarded this bridge deck overlay project on I-70 for $3.2 million.

The project is scheduled for completion on Nov. 15 of this year.

INDOT reminds motorists to follow the posted work zone speed limit, use caution and consider worker safety when traveling through a construction zone.
