PUTNAMVILLE — Superintendent Brian Smith of Putnamville Correctional Facility recently announced the promotion of former investigation and intelligence officer Darrin Chaney to Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) compliance coordinator and investigator.

Chaney served six years in the United States Army 82nd Airborne Division as a sergeant and has served 17 years in the Indiana Department of Correction in many areas such as correctional officer, sergeant, recreation leader, security threat group coordinator and internal affairs officer.

He has served on the Putnamville Emergency Squad for 13 years and was a field commander for seven years in addition to that.

“Hard work definitely pays off and with the knowledge Mr. Chaney has in the expertise of PREA, he will prove to be a great asset in this capacity,” Smith said.
