The inaugural Humane Society of Putnam County Celebration Event Saturday evening raised more than $3,000 and included the unveiling of a significant donation for the organization’s future.

The $3,000 raised at the event at the Community Building on the Putnam County Fairgrounds is expected to be used to purchase kennels in the revamped intake room at the shelter.

During the evening the HSPC board honored Charlie and Karen Cooper for their donation of a new van which will be used to transport animals to adoption events around the state.

Cooper explained that he and his wife had previously established the Putnam County Foundation endowment New Beginnings for Homeless Pets.

“Sandy (Grimes, president of the Humane Society) said she needed a van,” Cooper explained simply.

“We cannot thank members of the community enough for their generous donations and support for this event,” Grimes said. “The funds raised will ensure that the intake room can be the best available to animals in need. Without the generous donations, this would not be possible.”
