Road construction site poses big risk

Thursday, September 15, 2016

To the Editor:

In a recent document from the Banner Graphic it mentions “They deserve our courtesy when we’re out on the road.”

The “Project of Independent Utility #4” at the intersection of U.S. 231 and 36 is a mess and is putting many people at risk. More than 705 people die yearly just in Indiana due to vehicle crashes.

Help us save citizens, please, by urging decision makers to rethink this construction set-up. We need a flagger on top of the hill before the stop light heading north on U.S. 231.

Also, the light situation at the intersection is going to cause harm to many people if it is not changed. Drivers should not be turning on green with a row of cars stacked up in front of them as they are sitting at a red light. This will cause everyday drivers to get used to the idea of pulling in front of cars on a green light.

I know this construction site is almost finished but, please, for the sake of Putnam County citizens and newcoming drivers, fix the issue before it is too late. Take action.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Noah C. Cook
