County Jail

Three people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Tuesday

• At 2:31 p.m., Barry Alan Wright, 56, of Fontana, Calif., was lodged at the jail on charges of possession of methamphetamine.

Wednesday

• At 11:06 a.m., Frederick Buttery Jr., 42, of Cloverdale, was lodged at the jail on a local warrant and charges of theft.

• At 10:05 p.m., Tommy D. Billings Jr., 33, of Greencastle, was booked into the jail on a local warrant.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County Sheriff’s department personnel responded to two recent property-damage accidents.

• At 7:20 a.m. on Wednesday, Kristie D. Hankins, 42, Greencastle, was eastbound on County Road 850 N. when she hit a deer with her 2007 Ford Freestyle. The front driver’s side was damaged. Deputy Matt Biggs estimated damage at $1,000 to $2,500. There were no injuries.

• At 4:46 a.m. on Sept. 6, Scott F. Wesley, 22, of Tampa, Fla., was eastbound on State Road 240 E. when he swerved to miss a deer, ran off the road and hit a utility pole with his 2015 Ford F350. The front end was damaged. Deputy Anthony Brown estimated damage at $5,000 to $10,000. There were no injuries.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department recently responded to five dispatches.

• At 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD responded to a fire alarm but was disregarded while en route to Van Bibber Lake.

• At 7:23 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD performed an odor investigation in the area of West Washington Street after receiving reports of odor in the area. GFD monitored the air and determined a carbon monoxide detector head had malfunctioned, causing the alarm.

• At 12:22 a.m. on Thursday, GFD responded to reports of a motor-vehicle accident but was disregarded en route.

• At 1:36 a.m. on Thursday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 807 S. College Ave. Officers from the DePauw Police Department were also on scene. GFD reset the alarm, which originated from a pull station in the building’s basement, after it was determined to have been set off unnecessarily.

• At 3:28 p.m. on Thursday, GFD responded to a motor-vehicle accident at the intersection of Bloomington and Washington streets. GFD assisted in the removal of debris from the roadway before returning to station.
