Tuesday’s Ubben Lecture to feature Leslie Odom Jr.

DePauw University students with ID in-hand can enter Kresge Auditorium at 6:30 p.m. this Tuesday, Sept. 20, for the Ubben Lecture by Tony Award-winning Hamilton star Leslie Odom Jr.

At 6:45 p.m. doors will open to all others.

At 7:30 p.m. Odom will discuss “Finding Your Personal Spotlight” in the venue, which is located within DePauw’s Green Center for the Performing Arts (located at 605 S. College Ave.). The speech will be followed by a question-and-answer session with the audience and a brief musical performance.

Seating will be general admission and first-come-first-served. In the event that all of the 1,400 seats are filled, Moore Theatre, which is adjacent to Kresge, will offer the program on a closed-circuit video feed.

Like all Timothy and Sharon Ubben Lectures, the event is presented free of admission charge and is open to everyone.

Odom’s portrayal of Aaron Burr in the smash hit Hamilton earned him the 2016 Tony Award for Best Leading Actor. He also won a Grammy Award as a principal soloist on Hamilton’s original Broadway cast recording, which was honored for Best Musical Theater Album.

The Indianapolis Star recently listed Odom in a story highlighting the “20 most interesting people headed to Indiana this fall.”

Established in 1986 through the generous support of 1958 DePauw graduates Timothy H. and Sharon Williams Ubben, the Ubben Lecture Series was designed to “bring the world to Greencastle” and has presented 104 programs. Previous Ubben Lecturers have included Elie Wiesel, Jane Goodall, Mikhail Gorbachev, Margaret Thatcher, Bill Clinton, Peyton Manning, Mike Krzyzewski and Ken Burns.
