Tiger Cubs keep rolling in boys’ soccer

Saturday, September 17, 2016

CLINTON — Greencastle improved to 8-1-1 in boys’ soccer on Thursday with a 3-1 win over South Vermillion.

“The boys played well despite the condition of the pitch they played on,” Greencastle coach J.D. Sims said. “South Vermillion’s field is much smaller than most fields and this made it harder for our style of game because we like to get wide and pass the ball around.”

Sims took the opportunity to play a different lineup, and was pleased with the results.

“I started a younger squad and was impressed with how the players performed,” he said. “We had some great moments of play throughout the game.

“Nate Trissel scored what will probably be the goal of the season when he hit a volley out side of the box that deflected from a header,” Sims added. “It was a beautiful goal.”

Other goals were scored by Kevin Polster and Jakob Foss (on a penalty kick). Hector Lezama had an assist for the Tiger Cubs.

In goal, Brody Watson had three saves and Ben Webb had one.

The Tiger Cubs host Sullivan at 11 a.m. today in a key Western Indiana Conference match.
