With another link in the People Pathways system established in Putnam County, citizens gathered to celebrate the opening of the Putnam Nature Trail on Friday not with a ribbon cutting, but with a chain linking. The link was established by Emma Wilson and Malcolm Romine, respectively the youngest and oldest participants in the local section of the Indiana Bicentennial Torch Relay the day before. The new pathway, which runs from the west end of Veterans Memorial Highway southwest to Limedale, establishes pathway links from Limedale to Greencastle to Fillmore and on east into Amo in Hendricks County. Longtime People Pathways advocate Joy Marley emphasized how the trails not only link the towns, but people of different ages. “We’re also connecting our past to our present,” Marley said. “Some of us remember when trains came through on this land.”
