Twenty-three people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Monday

• At 11:57 p.m. Charles Perry Cooper, 28, Greencastle, was housed at the jail on a writ of body attachment.

• At 7:09 p.m. David Austin Vohs, 57, Mason City, Ariz., was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia.

• At 2:21 p.m. Justin Eugene Smith, 28, Fillmore, was taken into custody on a warrant for attempting to purchase a handgun by an ineligible person.

• At 2 p.m. Wesley Allen Baker, 24, Roachdale, was lodged at the jail on a warrant.

• At 1:49 p.m. Steven Ray Burnett II, 31, Rockville, was charged with theft and probation violation.

• At 5:28 a.m. Devin Ray Willard, 28, Roachdale, was booked in for unlawful possession of a syringe, possession of methamphetamine, criminal mischief and residential entry.

• At 2:16 a.m. Dennis Lee Kent, 39, Greencastle, was housed at the jail on a local warrant.

Saturday

• At 11:52 p.m. Anthony Jerome Hicks, 48, Gary, was arrested for strangulation, interference with reporting of a crime, battery and domestic battery.

• At 11:30 p.m. Adam Spencer Hensley, 32, Poland, was taken into custody on a local warrant.

• At 10:25 p.m. Wesley Jerome Thornton, 38, Crawfordsville, was lodged at the jail on a local warrant.

• At 9:07 p.m. Stephen Jerod Bridges, 34, Greencastle, was booked in on a local warrant.

• At 6:31 p.m. Brittany Nicole Mendenhall, 28, Fillmore, was charged with battery.

• At 6:27 p.m. Bradford James Arnold, 33, Fillmore, was housed at the jail for battery.

• At 3:14 p.m. Jeffery Dale Hendricks, 44, Greencastle, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, possession of a handgun without a permit, possession of a stolen firearm and on a warrant.

• At 5:34 a.m. Keven Dale Crowe, 25, Coatesville, was taken into custody for invasion of privacy.

• At 4:12 a.m. Stephen Ray Loyal, 28, Beech Grove, was lodged at the jail for operating while intoxicated.

• At 3:51 a.m. Patrick Michael Lee, 28, Greencastle, was charged with being a minor in consumption of alcohol, public intoxication, resisting law enforcement and possession of false identification.

Friday

• At 10:46 p.m. Corey Adam Bunten, 28, Greencastle, was booked in on a local warrant.

• At 9:45 p.m. Douglas Leon Pottorff, 53, Cloverdale, was housed at the jail on a local warrant.

• At 11:19 a.m. Stefanie Marie Wells, 31, Jasonville, was arrested on an out-of-county warrant for theft.

• At 10:39 a.m. Frederick Morgan Jr., 45, Indianapolis, was taken into custody on a warrant for nonsupport of a dependent.

• At 8:16 a.m. Joshua Allen Smith, 33, Terre Haute, was lodged at the jail for violation of home detention.

• At 6:11 a.m. Michael VanEvery, 36, Cloverdale, was booked in for possession of a Schedule I-IV controlled substance.

City Police

Two recent shoplifting cases were investigated by Greencastle City Police officers.

• At 10:17 p.m. Friday, John Rechtiene, 18, St. Louis, was arrested for allegedly taking $71 worth of alcohol from the Greencastle Walmart store.

Officer Brad Hiatt reported that Rechtiene reportedly put Hamm’s beer, Smirnoff vodka and box wine in a shopping cart and attempted to walk out of the store while bypassing the checkout.

Rechtiene was lodged in the Putnam County Jail on a theft charge.

• At 7:38 p.m. Friday, Christal Carls, 40, Coatesville, was arrested at the Walmart store for allegedly taking $85 worth of miscellaneous baby clothes.

Officer Zach Rhine reported that Carls concealed the items in her purse.

Carls was lodged in the Putnam County Jail on a theft charge.

One additional arrest was reported by city officers.

• At 12:20 p.m. Saturday, Tiaira Brown, 19, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Josh Smith at a West Walnut Street residence.

Brown was booked into the Putnam County Jail on a Vigo County warrant for failure to appear.

Two recent property-damage accidents were investigated by city officers.

• At 4:33 p.m. Thursday, a two-car accident was reported at Seminary and Bloomington streets.

Officer Kyle Lee reported that Teresa Batto, 74, Greencastle, was westbound on Seminary Street, preparing to cross Bloomington in a 2010 Toyota Prius, when she did not see a 2012 Toyota Prius driven by William Long, 74, Greencastle, and struck the Long car in the rear quarterpanel.

Total damage was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 10:50 a.m. Thursday, a one-car mishap resulted in $2,500-$5,000 damage on the parking lot of First National Bank, 1128 Indianapolis Rd.

Elsie Littrell, 82, Greencastle, was driving a 1999 Buick Century, Officer Lee reported, when her foot reportedly slipped off the brake pedal and the car struck a pillar at the front of the bank building.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies responded to four recent property-damage crashes.

• At 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, Brandon S. Workman, 17, Greencastle, was eastbound on County Road 350 North approaching a 90-degree left turn onto County Road 800 East in a 2007 Chrysler Sebring.

Workman told Deputy Jacob Harrington he lost control and ran off the road, hitting a utility pole.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

• At 8:40 a.m. on Sunday, Providence A. Trigg, 25, Greencastle, was southbound on U.S. 231 in a 2008 Nissan Sentra.

Trigg told Capt. Tom Helmer the vehicle began to slide on the wet surface as she entered a curve. She lost control and slid across both northbound lanes before leaving the roadway. The vehicle hit a trash can, then went down an embankment and a ditch.

The vehicle rolled before hitting a utility pole. It slid to a stop on its passenger side.

Helmer and Deputy Matt Biggs discovered that the rear tires were worn down to the core with little tread.

Trigg was uninjured.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

• At 11:54 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 21, Seth A. Turner, 20, Greencastle, was westbound on State Road 240 in a 1996 Ford Aspire when he lost control rounding a corner.

Deputy Scott Ducker reported the car left the south side of the road and hit a fence, coming to rest in a field.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500

• At 9:26 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 21, Michael A. Clark, 41, Fishers, was stopped on the Interstate 70 exit ramp at U.S. 231 in a 2013 Honda Accord. Leroy G. Blume, 65, Lebanon, was stopped behind him in a 2014 Peterbilt semi.

Blume said he saw Clark’s vehicle start to move, as if to merge onto U.S. 231. Blume began to move forward as well but Clark stopped and Blume rear-ended him.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.
