A Greencastle man found himself in the Clay County Jail Thursday evening after attempting to flee an Indiana State Trooper.

At 8:05 p.m., Master Trooper Todd Brown attempted to stop a gray 1984 Yamaha motorcycle on eastbound U.S. 40 near Clay County Road 425 West for traveling 68 mph in a 55 mph zone.

As Brown activated his emergency lighting, the motorcycle driver refused to stop and attempted to flee.

Moments later, the cycle came to a stop on eastbound US 40 near CR 300 W due to mechanical issues. Master Trooper Brown quickly approached the driver and took him into custody.

Further investigation revealed the driver, 31-year-old Charles Allen Spiker, was in possession of a stolen handgun, approximately 4.9 grams of methamphetamine, approximately two grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

The handgun was reported stolen out of Putnam County and the motorcycle had not been registered through the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

Spiker was booked in on felony charges of possession of stolen property and possession of methamphetamine as well as misdemeanor counts of possession of a handgun without a permit, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.
