Upcoming 5K run ‘guaranteed to improve your mental health’

Friday, September 30, 2016

The 10th annual Mind Your Health Run/Walk is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 8, starting at 4:30 p.m. from Blackstock Stadium on DePauw University’s Campus and continuing through the Nature Park.

Some may remember 2011 when Marshall Mathew, then a freshman at DePauw, took his life. Each year since the Be Great Today 5K has taken place to raise awareness and help fund training in our county for suicide prevention and education.

It seemed a perfect fit for this cause to join forces with Mental Health America of Putnam County and its annual Mind Your Health Race.

MHA promotes mental wellness while working to erase the stigma of mental illness in Putnam County through education, support services and prevention activities. All community members are welcome and encouraged to participate — to race, run or just have a beautiful walk to help support the cause.

All participants will be treated to pizza at the end of the run.

Registration starts at 4:30 p.m. with the race at 5. Registration is $20 and all proceeds stay in Putnam County.

For additional information call MHA Director Karen Martoglio at 653-3310.
