PCPL to host Observe the Moon Night

Friday, September 30, 2016

The Putnam County Public Library will host International Observe the Moon Night (InOMN) Saturday, Oct. 8 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

InOMN is an annual event dedicated to encouraging people to “look up and notice our nearest neighbor, the Moon.” People from around world host events using everything from the naked eye to the most sensitive telescope.

The library program is for all ages, with moon viewing with a Celestron telescope and the Star Lab planetarium. There will be children’s craft and project stations for making moon journals, learning about the formation of moon craters and more. Moon-themed snacks will be served.

The Celestron telescope and Star Lab planetarium will be provided courtesy of Mary Kertzman, professor of physics and astronomy at DePauw University, who will be present with several students to guide the moon viewing.
