Bronwyn Spencer is a senior at North Putnam, who stays very busy playing volleyball, basketball and softball.

Banner Graphic: Your first name is pretty unique. Is there a story behind it?

Bronwyn Spencer: “It means ‘pure’, and my parents just found it in a book and liked it.”

BG: Are you a “city girl” or a “country girl”?

BS: “I’m a country girl and live on a farm. I raise livestock (beef cattle) and swine.”

BG: Do you enter them in 4-H?

BS: “Yes, I have gone to the state fair nine times. I haven’t won any blue ribbons, but I have done pretty well there. That’s where my heart is.”

BG: Is it hard to play three sports?

BS: “It’s pretty difficult keeping up with schoolwork. I have to manage my time well and prepare things. I somehow manage to get it all done. I’m an A-B student.”

BG: How has volleyball gone this fall?

BS: “It’s been an OK year, but not the best. I feel if we can work through the problems we have we could have a pretty good team.”

BG: You play at the net. Is that difficult?

BS: “I like jumping. I’ve taken plenty of hits to the face. It’s not very comfortable.”

BG: How is basketball looking?

BS: “I feel like we are going to have the potential to be really good this year. Coach [Jarrod] Duff knows what he’s doing and how the players act. We are in a position to have a good year.”

BG: And the outlook for softball?

BS: “Last year we progressed as a team from the beginning to the end, and we only have room to grow.”

BG: What else do you do besides school?

BS: “I do volunteer work with the Key Club and with Unified events here at school [flag football and basketball], also at the food bank in Bainbridge. I like to contribute to society and give back. I also like to read books and watch movies, anything about adventure. I like to go on trips. I’m going to Mexico in March. I liked Washington, D.C., a lot because of the history.”

BG: What are your favorite classes?

BS: “I like my history classes, and how past events can affect the future.”

BG: Which teachers have inspired you the most in history?

BS: “Mr. Price in seventh grade, Mrs. Knapp in eighth grade and Mr. Black my U.S. History teacher.”

BG: What are your plans after high school?

BS: “I am going to Purdue to major in social studies education. I’d like to teach in high school.”
