Roachdale juvenile charged in accident injuring boy boarding school bus

BELLMORE -- A Putnam County juvenile was arrested Monday after her car struck and injured a Parke County teenager walking across U.S. 36 to get on his school bus.

Parke County deputies, investigating the accident on U.S. 36, east of State Road 59, reported that a 15-year-old male was walking across the highway to board a stopped school bus with its stop arm extended and all emergency lights illuminated.

A 17-year-old Roachdale female was eastbound on U.S. 36, driving a 2010 Lincoln SUV when she reportedly disregarded the stop arm on the bus and the pedestrian was struck by the passenger side mirror of the SUV.

The victim was taken to Union Hospital at Terre Haute, where he was treated for pain to his side and leg. He was later released.

The Roachdale teenager was arrested for reckless driving and driving with a suspended license. She was released on her own recognizance.
