Tiger Cubs, Clovers record WIC crossover wins

Greencastle and Cloverdale picked up victories on Saturday in the Western Indiana Conference volleyball crossover round.

The Tiger Cubs finished in fifth place after defeating Cascade 3-2, while the Clovers wound up in 11th place after defeating South Putnam.

Here is a look at each match:

Greencastle 3, Cascade 2 — At Clayton, the Tiger Cubs trailed 2-1 after two sets but bounced back to pull out the victory.

The Tiger Cubs won by scores of 19-25, 25-23, 20-25, 25-14 and 15-9.

Greencastle stats:

Bailey Shuee had 15 kills, 10 digs and blocks for Greencastle, while Allison Stevens had 14 kills and four blocks, Jalyn Duff added 32 assists and 10 digs, Maggie Meyer had 30 digs, Mackenzie Woodall had 16 digs, Lydia Trout had 13 digs and Sarah Miller had eight kills.

Cloverdale 3, South Putnam 0 — At Cloverdale, the hosts won by scores of 25-17, 25-20 and 25-16. The Clover JV team also won in two sets.

Cloverdale stats:

Serving — Hannah Rady had 15 points and five aces, Haley Maners had a career-high 13 points and three aces, Kenzie Stoltz eight points and one ace, Tori Combs added seven points and three aces, Hailey Thomas had four points, Justyce Monnett had two points and Lauren Meek had one point and one ace.

Kills — Tori Combs 10, Justyce Monnett 9, Kenzie Stoltz 8, Hannah Rady 2, Haley Maners 1.

Set-assists — Hannah Rady 21.

Blocks — Tori Combs 1.

Digs — Hailey Thomas 10, Kenzie Stoltz 7,Justyce Monnett 7, Hannah Rady 6, Lauren Meek 4,Tori Combs 4, Haley Maners 2

“We played well against the Eagles,” Cloverdale coach Kathy Moore said. “We played more confidently and made fewer mental errors in this match.”

The varsity finished its season with a 7-18 record and the JV was 20-5.

South Putnam stats:

Brown County 3, North Putnam 0 — At Nashville, the Eagles captured ninth place by winning 25-16, 25-15, 25-9.

“We struggled with passing, which obviously affected our hitting,” Cougar coach LeeAnn Bryan said.

Sectional week

Sectionals start Tuesday – The 45th Indiana High School Athletic Association state tournament begins at some sites on Tuesday.

All four Putnam County squads will open play on Thursday.

Greencastle plays in the Class 3A North Montgomery sectional at 6 p.m. against Frankfort.

North Putnam and South Putnam will open the Class 2A Monrovia sectional at 6 p.m., while Cloverdale plays Cascade in the second match that night.

Semifinals and championships in both sectionals are on Saturday.
