Louise Downs

Louise Downs, 86, of rural Dana, passed away at 3:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 17, 2016 at Vermillion Convalescent Center in Clinton.

Louise was born Aug. 29, 1930 in Greencastle, daughter of the late Enoch Arden and Sylvia (Disbrow) Sillery.

She married Arley V. Downs on May 28, 1949. He preceded her in death on Feb. 18, 2008.

Survivors include two sons, Wilbert V. (Joelle) Downs of Terre Haute, and Gerald E. (Shirley) Downs of Cayuga; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and one brother, Roy Sillery of Reelsville.

She was preceded in death by two sons, infant Steven Edward and Ivan Dean Downs; infant grandson Adam Edward Downs; two infant granddaughters, Phoebe Elle Pennington and Ava Oakes, and four brothers.

Louise was a homemaker and farmer's wife.

She attended Hillsdale Bible Church in Hillsdale, Ind., and formerly attended the Hopewell Friends Church in Quaker, Ind.

Louise was a graduate of Greencastle High School.

She was a member of the Ladies Missionary at Hopewell Friends Church and Cayuga Area Senior Citizens Club. Louise was a former Sunday school teacher and Sunday school superintendent at Hopewell Friends Church.

She enjoyed baking pies, quilting, crocheting, ceramics, raising flowers, gardening, traveling and spending time with her many grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at noon Thursday, Oct. 20 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga with Pastor Jim Roland officiating.

Burial will be in Thomas Cemetery, Newport.

Visitation is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 20 until time of services at the funeral home.
