Moore pleased with season

MONROVIA — The Cloverdale volleyball team lost to the Cascade Cadets in the first round of the Monrovia sectionals on Thursday night by scores of 20-25, 21-25 and 18-25 to finish the season at 7-19.

Leading the Clovers from the service line was Kenzie Stoltz with 12 points and three aces. Hannah Rady contributed six points and three aces, Hailey Thomas had four points, Tori Combs and Kiley Shedron had two points each and Lauren Meek, Haley Maners and Justyce Monnett had one point each.

Combs led the Clover attackers with 10 kills, followed by Stoltz with six, Monnett with five and Rady, Kassie Wade and Maners with one kill each.

Defensively at the net, Combs had seven solo blocks. Thomas had 14 digs, while Combs had 10, Stoltz and Maners each had seven, Monnett had six, Meek and Wade each had four, Rady had three and Payten Simpson had one.

“I am very proud of this team and how hard they have worked this season,” coach Kathy Moore said. “I have seen growth and improvement throughout this rebuilding year. With such a young team, playing together and getting along will act as a good foundation for the next few years.

“Our two seniors [Meek and Simpson] have been good leaders and we want to wish them well.”

Cougars in action today — North Putnam will play Cascade today at 11 a.m. in the Monrovia sectional semifinals. Southmont and the host Bulldogs are also still alive.
