Ken Torr to discuss his photography work

Friday, October 28, 2016

Local photographer and livestockman, Ken Torr, a lifelong Putnam County resident, will talk about his photography work to increase awareness of the importance of barns in our community’s history and daily life Saturday, Oct. 29 at 11 a.m.

The program at the Putnam County Museum, 1105 N. Jackson St., Greencastle, is free and open to the public.

Torr says he’s always had a camera in his hands. Starting in seventh grade, when a teacher encouraged him to develop his skills in the school’s darkroom, and continuing today with digital tools at his fingertips, Torr has taken photographs of nearly every barn in Putnam County.

He’s also made photographic record of other Putnam County structures including churches. Currently, he is working to expand his collection of photographs to include all 92 Indiana county courthouses, and the remainder of the Mail Pouch advertising barns that once existed across the Hoosier State.

Several of Torr’s local barn photos are currently on display at the museum and others will be shown during his talk. In addition, as a Putnam County representative to the Indiana Barn Foundation, Torr has arranged for that organization’s Bicentennial Barn Quilt to be displayed at the museum Friday and Saturday.

The museum is accepting book orders for his entire Putnam County barn photo collection, complete with township locations. The custom printed books benefit both the museum and the Putnam County 4-H Livestock Scholarship Endowment Fund at PCCF.

Persons may call the museum at 653-8419 for more information.
