Tuesday, November 1, 2016

Touring jazz singer Ariel Pocock, visiting Greencastle from North Carolina, and accompanied by DePauw University School of Music pianist, Steve Snyder, will headline a First Friday Arts Fest open stage concert at Music on the Square Friday, Nov. 4 from 8-10 p.m.

The Greencastle Arts Council is co-sponsoring the event, which is free and open to the public.

Mark Rabideau, director of 21CM, says of Pocock, “Ariel has emerged as one of the fierce young women of jazz to watch, with the soul of Joni Mitchell, the sound of Nora Jones and the phrasing of Billie Holiday.”

Local musicians, including Istvan Ciscsery-Ronay, Julianna Goldsmith, Tammy Hunter, Mike Van Rensselear and Chris Wurster also are scheduled to perform.

The music will reflect the Arts Fest theme of “Arts and Utopia.”

Other musicians from the community and DePauw are welcome to join the open stage.

For more information, persons may contact Wurster at 720-8912.
