Fly the W, Greencastle

The history of the Chicago Cubs’ World Series victory Wednesday evening was not lost on Greencastle, with signs of victory showing up around the city. Headley Hardware (below) and ServiceMaster of Greencastle (bottom), the latter known to sport a Detroit Tigers flag, used their marquees to support the long-suffering franchise. Then there is the Edgelea Drive lawn of Doug Wokoun (above). After the Cubs were crowned National League champions, Wokoun cut a 27-by-27 foot square in his yard and used field marking paint to show his support. Gassed after Game 7, the Cloverdale High School teacher went to bed just to get to school on Thursday. “Now that any possible goat, black cat or grounder to first (twice) has been eliminated, this is my masterpiece,” Wokoun said.

  • Thanks, Doug! We long-suffering Cub fans can finally exhale.
