Abel Bates has received scouting’s highest rank of Eagle Scout.

Bates, a member of Troop 93, is a 16-year-old junior at Cloverdale High School and has been involved in Scouting for 10 years.

Bates achieved the Eagle rank after demonstrating leadership as chaplain’s assistant and assistant senior patrol leader before completing his Eagle project.

Only four percent of scouting’s national membership attains the rank of Eagle.

For his Eagle Scout project he directed the installation of a bike rack and construction of picnic tables for St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Greencastle. These tables will be used for outside events and youth vacation Bible schools.

There were 16 volunteers who dedicated their service to assist Bates in completing his service project in November 2015.
