Tiger volleyball, men’s soccer teams make NCAA field
DePauw University’s volleyball and men’s soccer teams will participate this week in NCAA tournament competition.
Volleyball
After a strong 24-5 season, the Tiger volleyball team returns to the NCAA Division III women’s volleyball championship, capturing one of the 20 at-large bids announced Monday by the selection committee.
The Tigers will play Carnegie Mellon (25-7) at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the first round at the host site Calvin College, located in Grand Rapids, Mich. The winner will play either Calvin (27-1) or Pitt.-Bradford (25-5) at 7 p.m. Friday.
The regional finals will take place 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
DePauw makes its sixth appearance and its first since 2014. They’ve met Carnegie Mellon just once before, suffering a loss in 2014.
Men’s soccer
The 11-5-2 Tigers earned an at-large bid into the NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship and will host 14-5 Centre at 5 p.m. Saturday.
On the other side of the bracket, Redlands (16-5) will be the home team against Washington-St. Louis (10-4-2). That match will follow the DePauw/Centre matchup at 7:30 p.m.
The winners will face off Sunday at 5 p.m. at Reavis Stadium.
DePauw has a 7-6-3 record all-time against the Colonels. The two teams met earlier this season at Reavis Stadium on Sept. 17, where Centre left with a 3-2 overtime win.
It is DePauw’s 12th appearance in the NCAA Tournament where they hold a 3-11-1 (.233) record. Centre is 2-4 (.333) overall and makes its first appearance since 2012.
Last season, the Tigers advanced to the round of 16 after defeating Westminster 1-0 in the first round and advancing on a 8-7 penalty kick outcome against Washington-St. Louis.
