DePauw University wraps up the 2016 regular season today with the renewal of one of college football’s oldest and most colorful rivalries as the Tigers travel to Wabash College for the Monon Bell game.

Kickoff for the 123rd gridiron meeting between the two schools is set for 1:09 p.m.

The teams are meeting for the 85th time since the Monon Bell was introduced into the series in 1932. The rivalry started in 1890 and this marks the 106th consecutive year the schools are squaring off dating back to 1911.

The Little Giants hold a 60-53-9 edge in the series, including a 41-37-6 margin in games played for possession of the Monon Bell. Wabash has won the last seven which is the longest streak since the Bell entered the rivalry and matches the longest string overall which previously occurred from 1921-27.

DePauw enters the contest with a 7-2 overall record and a 6-2 mark in North Coast Athletic Conference play after last Saturday’s 50-17 win at Oberlin.

Wabash, ranked 14th in the latest coaches’ poll and 17th by D3football.com, is 8-1 overall and 7-1 in conference play following Saturday’s 22-14 win at Denison.

At stake

With a win, DePauw would regain possession of the Bell for the first time since it relinquished it after the 2009 game.

A Wabash win would give the Little Giants at least a share of the NCAC championship and a record eighth straight win in the rivalry.

Throw out the records?

Since 1924, DePauw and Wabash have squared off in each team’s final game 89 times. The team with the better winning percentage entering the game has a 53-30-6 record for a .629 winning percentage.

Tiger notes

The Tigers are 85-43 dating back to the beginning of the 2004 season and are 64-35 over the last nine seasons ... Matt Hunt is the only player in DePauw history and the only active Division III player with at least 1,500 rushing yards and 8,000 passing yards… Hunt’s 417 total yards against Hiram ranked third in DePauw history … Marko Adams broke

DePauw’s single-game record with nine extra-points made against Hiram and tied it against Allegheny … Ian Good’s 14 catches at Wooster equaled the second most by a DePauw receiver in a game, topped only by Jay True’s 16 against Butler in 1978 and Bryan Mullligan’s 15 against Wabash in 2007 … Chase Sadler’s four touchdown receptions at Allegheny broke the school single-game record … Hepp’s 23 passes defended (6 interceptions, 17 breakups) are the most in a season by a DePauw player since the statistic was first kept … the 90 combined points (both teams) in the Allegheny game ranks second in school history behind the 105 in a 99-6 win over Moore’s Hill in 1913 … the Tigers’ 485 rushing yards against Allegheny was the third-highest single-game effort in school history behind 532 vs. Principia in 1975 and 507 vs. Rose-Hulman in 2004.
