Local activities slated for Homeless Awareness Week

A number of special events are scheduled during National Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week as fundraisers for Beyond Homeless Inc., the local shelter at 309 E. Franklin St., Greencastle.

From Nov. 12-20 several special activities are set. All are fundraisers for Beyond Homeless. A Hike for Homeless 5K run/walk is set for Saturday, Nov. 12 beginning at 9 a.m. at the DePauw Nature Park.

Cost is $20 per person. The event will begin at the welcome center.

On Sunday, Nov. 13, Starbucks will host an “Open Mic for Open Hearts” event beginning at 6 p.m. with music poetry and comedy performers welcome.

On Monday, Nov. 14, McDonald’s restaurants in Greencastle and Cloverdale will have McDonald’s Community Day with a portion of sales proceeds going to Beyond Homeless.

Almost Home will conduct a community day as well on Tuesday, Nov. 15, while Wednesday, Nov. 16 will be community night at Buffalo Wild Wings from 6-9 p.m.

Thursday, Nov. 17 events will include chipolte burritos at DePauw University’s Green Center for the Performing Arts at 5 p.m., along with a movie night at the Putnam County Public Library for “The Lady in the Van,” which begins at 6:30 p.m.

Charlie’s Beefcake Burgers will have a community day for the shelter on Friday, Nov.18 from 4-9 p.m.

On Saturday, Nov. 19 Myers’ 5 East pop-up restaurant dinner fundraiser will feature steak, chicken and pasta from 4:30-8 p.m. Reservations can be made by calling 653-1335 or at myers5east@gmail.com.

On Sunday, Nov. 20, the Homeless Awareness Week events will conclude with community day at Chicago’s Pizza in Cloverdale.
