Sheriff’s Department

One recent property-damage mishap was investigated by Putnam County Sheriff’s Department deputies.

• At 12:43 p.m. on Tuesday, Joshua G. Jarrett, 32, Indianapolis, was northbound on U.S. 231 in a 2000 Ford Mustang just north of County Road 350 North. Araujo R. Hernandez, 58, Crawfordsville, was southbound on U.S. 231 in a 1999 Ford ZX2.

Jarrett told Capt. Tom Helmer he accelerated and due to his poor tire condition and the wet road, his vehicle started fishtailing. He tried to regain control but the car slid into the southbound lane and into the path of Hernandez.

The left front of Jarrett’s car struck the right front of Hernandez’s vehicle, as Hernandez served to try and avoid the collision. After impact, Jarrett’s car hit the guardrail on the west side. Hernandez’s vehicle slid across the northbound lane and came to rest against the guardrail on the east side.

Jarrett was cited for driving without a license. Hernandez was cited for operating without ever receiving a license.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000. Both vehicles were towed.

Helmer was assisted by Deputy Randy Patrick.
