DePauw women win opener

DePauw University trailed by as many as 10 in the second half, but outscored Birmingham-Southern 23-8 in the fourth and finished the game on a 14-0 run to take a 54-43 win over the Panthers in the second game of the DePauw Tipoff Tournament.

Rose-Hulman topped UT-Dallas, 55-53, in the opening game and will face the Tigers in today’s 5 p.m. championship contest.

DePauw (1-0) had a rough start from the field as the Tigers were 0-for-16 in the opening quarter, but finished the stanza tied 8-8.

The Panthers (0-2) took a 23-17 advantage into the intermission before scoring the first four points of the second half to extend the lead to double figures. DePauw scored the final four points of the third to cut the deficit to 35-31.

Maya Howard paced the Tigers with 11 points, while Kopp, making her collegiate debut, and Budde each added 10.

Kylie Morris grabbed a career-high eight rebounds including six on the offensive glass, while Ryan dished out four assists and recorded six steals in the win.

The Tigers finished with 26.8 percent shooting after hitting 52.2 percent in the second half.
