Albert Hans Reutemann

Albert Hans Reutemann passed away peacefully in his home on Nov. 16, 2016, after a brief illness.

He was born to Albert and Gertrude (Brutschy) Reutemann on Oct. 22, 1932, in Ashippun, Wis.

He married Lena Denise Tillett on Oct. 20, 1956, in Newbury, England.

Albert was a 20-year veteran of the Air Force. During that time, he completed a 13-month tour of duty in South Korea, trained as a Ranger during the Vietnam War and served as one of the first sky marshals on commercial aircraft.

After he retired from the Air Force, Albert worked at Mervis Industries in Kokomo. After retiring from Mervis, he volunteered at Howard Community Hospital for eight years, greatly enjoying the relationships he developed with the doctors, staff and patients.

Albert and Lena enjoyed 20 years of being "snowbirds" in Holiday Park, Holiday, Fla. Throughout his life, Al was a

diehard Green Bay Packers fan and one of his highlights was watching a game at Lambeau Field with his son-in-law, John.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.

Along with his wife of 60 years, he is survived by his sister, Elsa Foxhoven, Omaha, Neb.; and his children, Dr. Karen Helmers and husband, Dr. John Helmers, Greencastle, Stephen Reutemann and his partner, Connie West, Columbus, and Alan Reutemann and wife, Marta, Lutz, Fla.; along with six grandchildren and four great-grandsons.

A memorial service will be conducted at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 1 in Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, Greencastle. A service will be planned for the spring in Kokomo for their friends there.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested contributions be made in Albert's memory to Kokomo Rescue Mission, P.O. Box 476 Kokomo, IN 46903.
