Santa’s arrival to highlight December First Friday events

Banner Graphic file photo Arriving downtown aboard a Greencastle Fire Department engine just like he did last year, Santa Claus will be at the Putnam County Courthouse from 6-8 p.m. Friday to listen to children’s requests and have his picture taken with them.

The arrival of Santa Claus on Courthouse Square will kick off First Friday events as Main Street Greencastle marks the beginning of the holiday season in downtown Greencastle on Friday.

First Friday events run from 6-8 p.m. with events at the courthouse and merchants around the square.

St. Nick will arrive at 6 p.m. on a fire truck before making his way into the courthouse atrium to greet children and hear their Christmas wishes. Santa will remain at the courthouse until 8 p.m.

Besides the visit with Santa, residents can enjoy activities and specials from downtown merchants while riding around on a gingerbread trolley, surrounded by a canopy of lights, festive downtown planters and a downtown Holiday tree.

Friday activities and specials include:

- Almost Home - Owner Gail Smith will be offering sampling and recipes for many holiday items, including appetizers, cocktails, sweets and wine.

War Radio will be in the Swizzle Stick from 9 until midnight.

- Caroling - Covered Bridge Harmony will also be caroling on the square from 6-8 p.m.

- Castlemakers - Grand opening of the new space, including 3D printer demos and the laser engraver/cutter, plus some activities for kids like coloring candy canes or some other holiday paper items. A Cricut will be used to generate shapes that kids can keep and/or color.

- Completely Nuts and Candy will be open for business with holiday options.

- Conspire: Contemporary Craft will be open with extended hours until 8 p.m. with free samples of its organic teas.

- Courthouse Canopy of Lights – Provided the work on the courthouse limestone is done in time, the canopy of lights will be back thanks to the help of courthouse custodian Brian Smith and Main Street volunteers.

- Crickets will be doing a mystery box of savings. Each guest who makes a purchase will draw from the box to see what their savings will be for that transaction.

- Duke Energy - Duke will sponsor of the downtown holiday tree on the northwest corner of the courthouse lawn..

- Eitel’s & Co. - Friday’s sale will inclue 25 percent off everything holiday. Hot cider will be served.

Sweet Wishes by Eitel’s & Co. will offer “Visions of Sugar Plums” – Free candy and sweet treats buffet (Fill a box of yummy delights) from 6 - 8 p.m.

- The Game Warehouse will offer ree cookies.

- Holiday trolleys will be available to travel to downtown merchants from 6 - 8 p.m., weather permitting.

- Inn at DePauw - Hot chocolate bar open from 6-8 p.m. They will also be lighting the pergola.

- Myers’ Market is going to be doing a hot chocolate bar and a kids craft inside of Myers’ 5 East.

- Starbucks will offer buy one, get one free grande hot chocolates.

- Wasser Brewing Company will feature an entree and drink from the menu at the Jazz on Tap event that many people have asked to be prepared again. They will be serving pollo a la brasa, braised chicken in traditional Peruvian seasonings served a top creole rice with an ancho chili mole sauce with mixed vegetables, as well as chicha morado, a Peruvian drink with blue corn and fruit. The entree and chicha will be served together for $12.

- WynWay Technologies LLC will have the official Santa’s Mailbox from Dec 2 until Christmas. Children will be able to drop off their letters to Santa any day of the week at 122 E. Washington St.
