Houston Lee Sering, 78, Crawfordsville, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, Nov. 28, 2016.

Born Jan. 20, 1938 in Paris, Ill., he was the son of Herman H. Sering and Anna Mae Pointer Sering.

He graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1956.

He married the former Sara Beck on Aug. 20, 1997.

Houston was a member of the Crawfordsville Eagles, where he was a past president and member of the ritual team. He was also a member of the American Legion, having served his country in the Air Force as part of the weather service.

He worked for 38 years and retired as the director of customer service for CPM, parent company Ingersoll-Rand. He liked to travel and study wine.

His surviving family includes his wife, Sara Sering of Crawfordsville; daughter Vicki (Jim) King of Scottsdale, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Kaitlin King, Daniel (Victoria) King and Corrie (Diego) Madueño; three stepchildren, Saralea (Dave) Gibson, Rick (Lisa) Knowling and Nanetta Jo (Scott) Zickman; step-grandchildren, Dustan (Amee) Lyons, Darrin (Becky) Lyons, Blake (Hanna) Knowling, Vanessa (Steve) Gullette and Logan Van Sickle; and niece Joan Spurlock (Mike) McPherson.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Deanna Dee Sering.

A memorial will take place Saturday, Dec. 10 at Burkhart Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at noon and the service will begin at 2 p.m., led by Pastor Mike Whitacre, with military rites and Eagles rites at the start of the service.
