Shoe Sensation collecting socks for troops and local veterans

Thursday, December 1, 2016

As of Sunday, Nov. 27, Shoe Sensation’s Socks for Troops program has collected 3,996 pairs of socks and 585 shoe laces for local veterans and active duty military overseas.

The program is receiving tremendous community participation, Shoe Sensation officials said, thanking all who have donated so far on behalf of our troops and veterans.

Socks for Troops, will continue in all 150 Shoe Sensation locations -- including Putnam Plaza in Greencastle -- through Christmas Eve.

The Socks for Troops effort is designed to collect and donate both military-approved socks for active duty personnel stationed overseas as well as casual socks for off-duty use and local veterans in need.

Shoe Sensation is offering a 20 percent discount on socks purchased for donation to the Socks for Troops program. While new, unworn socks purchased elsewhere may be donated, Shoe Sensation has secured a special selection of military approved socks that meet the requirements for active duty which can be purchased to donate to active-duty troops overseas. Anyone who has served in the military or worked outdoors in difficult conditions understands the difference dry, clean socks can make.

While the military does provide clothing, including socks, extra socks are one of the top requests of U.S. personnel overseas.
