GIRLS

South Putnam (5-1) vs. North Putnam (0-8)

Game date: 6 p.m. today at North Putnam

History: South Putnam won twice last year and has won four straight games. North Putnam’s last win in the series was a 42-30 decision on Nov. 23, 2013.

Scouting report: South Putnam’s only loss came 53-35 to Greencastle in the championship game of the Putnam County tournament. Juniors Lillie Stein and Miranda Bieghler are among the top scorers for the Eagles. Aleah Duncan has led North Putnam in scoring for the past few games.

Greencastle (4-5) vs. West Vigo (2-5)

Game date: 6 p.m. today at Greencastle

History: Greencastle won 54-30 last year and has won five straight meetings.

Scouting report: The Tiger Cubs lost their first four games, won their next four games, then lost at Tri-West on Tuesday. West Vigo defeated Shakamak 34-32 and North Central 54-42 for its two victories.

Cloverdale (6-2) vs. Edgewood (7-2)

Game date: 6 p.m. today at Cloverdale

History: Edgewood won 48-30 last season in the only recent meeting between the teams.

Scouting report: The Clovers lost 51-39 to Riverton Parke and 54-33 to South Putnam, teams which have only lost one game each. Edgewood won its first three games, then lost 42-21 to Bloomington South and 31-21 to South Putnam before winning four straight games over Linton, Bloomfield, Sullivan and White River Valley.

Sophomore center Tori Combs had a double-double for Cloverdale in its most recent win over North Putnam.

BOYS

Cloverdale (1-0)

Today: Hosts Edgewood (1-1) at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday: At Southmont (2-0) at 7:30 p.m.

Scouting report: Cloverdale defeated Illini Bluffs 76-68 in its only game on Nov. 22. Cooper Neese had 30 points and Jalen Moore 25 for the Clovers.

Edgwood lost 59-50 to Bloomington South and defeated Martinsville 82-75. Senior guard Cooper Bybee was second on the team in scoring last year at 14.5 ppg. Edgewood and Cloverdale split a pair of games last year.

Southmont has defeated Turkey Run 80-34 and North Putnam 72-61 this season. Senior center Kaleb Swick and junior guard Cam Chadd lead the Mounties, who have lost three straight to the Clovers, including a 67-58 game last year.

Greencastle (0-2)

Today: Hosts West Vigo (1-0) at 7:30 p.m.

History: West Vigo won 48-35 last year at home.

Scouting report: Colin York was the leading scorer for Greencastle in both games this season.

The Vikings won their only game so far by defeating West Vigo 66-42. The Vikings return four starters, including 6-8 senior center Austin Sappingfield and 6-4 senior Ty Lautenschlager (a Louisiana-Monroe baseball signee).

North Putnam (0-1)

Today: Hosts South Putnam at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday: 7:30 p.m. at Brownsburg (1-1)

History: South Putnam and North Putnam played three times last year, with the Cougars winning the first two and South Putnam winning the third.

North Putnam is taking part in a one-day “shootout” at Brownsburg and has not played the Bulldogs in recent years.

Scouting report: Elliot Gross was the leading scorer for North Putnam in its loss to Southmont. Brownsburg has lost 62-46 to Lawrence Central and defeated Fort Wayne South 89-61.

South Putnam (1-1)

Today: Plays at North Putnam at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday: Hosts Bethesda Christian at 7:30 p.m.

History: South Putnam and North Putnam played three times last year, with the Cougars winning the first two and South Putnam winning the third.

Scouting report: South Putnam is led by 6-5 sophomore Allen Plunkett, the state’s fourth-leading freshman scorer last year.

Bethesda Christian defeated Covenant Christian 76-73 in overtime.
