John Cabot Martin

John Cabot Martin, 78, of North Vernon, passed away at 12:05 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30, 2016 at his residence.

Born Oct. 11, 1938 in Indianapolis, Mr. Martin was the son of Leslie and Rachel Love Martin.

He was married Barbara McKain Martin for 22 years, and she survives.

Mr. Martin worked as a bus driver for the North Putnam School Corporation and was owner of Business Excavating in Roachdale; and had once served as town marshal of Bainbridge and a was Boone County deputy sheriff.

He enjoyed fishing, camping in his Winnebago, but he especially loved spending time with his family.

Surviving with his wife, Barbara Martin, are sons, John Ross Chafey and Joseph (Brandi) Cabot Martin, both of Arizona, Mikel (Shelley) May of Greenwood and Alan Patrick (Cassandra) Martin of Roachdale; brothers Keith (Barb) Martin, Dale (Helen) Martin and William Martin, all of Indianapolis; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Rachel Love Martin, and a sister, Charlene Barnett.

A graveside service for Mr. Martin will be conducted at noon Tuesday, Jan. 3 in the Roachdale Cemetery.

Dove-Sharp and Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon was entrusted with the care of these arrangements.
