South Putnam routs Shakamak

South Putnam’s girls shook off a bad first quarter on Tuesday night to defeat Shakamak 57-26 in girls’ high school basketball.

The Eagles managed just five points in the opening period, burdened by six turnovers. Shakamak had eight miscues in the period, and the Eagles managed to hold a 5-4 lead at the first stop.

The Eagles broke things open in the second quarter with a 15-9 outburst, led by six points from Miranda Bieghler, four from Ally Nichols and three from Lexi Vanihel.

South Putnam won the third period 17-7 and dominated the final quarter 20-6.

Vanihel had six of her 11 in the final period.

Bieghler paced the Eagles with 12 points, while Lillie Stein also added 11 and Nichols had eight.
