Letter to the Editor

Pledge allegiance to the republic

Thursday, January 12, 2017

To the Editor:

I read Lee Hamilton’s column and he keeps referring us to a representative democracy. When did we change from a republic?

I thought when we sent representatives and senators to Congress, they pledged allegiance to uphold our republic.

I believe if everyone would read our U.S. Constitution and demand our representatives and senators abide by those rules, our country called the United States of America would again prosper as it did before we added too many rules and regulations that shouldn’t be there on our businesses and citizens.

We should teach all our children in public and private schools to pledge allegiance to our flag and to the republic for which it stands.
