Crossover lineups falling into place

Monday, January 16, 2017

With the Western Indiana Conference girls’ basketball crossover playoff games scheduled for Friday, some pairings remain up in the air pending outcomes of the final two divisional games.

In the East Division, Cascade finished first at 5-0, Cloverdale finished fourth at 1-4 and Brown County finished sixth at 0-5. Owen Valley (3-1) plays at Edgewood (2-2) tonight, with Indian Creek (3-2) awaiting the outcome to determine the placings for second through fourth.

In the West Division, Greencastle finished first at 5-0, while Northview was second at 4-1 and North Putnam was sixth at 0-5. South Putnam finished with a 2-3 record and was awaiting the outcome of Monday night’s game featuring West Vigo (1-3) at Sullivan (2-2).

Should the teams with the better records win the two remaining games, the pairings would be complete; losses by the teams with the better records would create three-way ties.

If Sullivan won on Monday night and Owen Valley wins tonight, these would be the pairings for Friday:

1st/2nd place – Cascade at Greencastle (will not change)

3rd/4th – Owen Valley at Northview

5th/6th – Indian Creek at Sullivan

7th/8th – Edgewood at South Putnam

9th/10th – Cloverdale at West Vigo

11th/12th – Brown County at North Putnam (will not change)

Three games remain to be played in the boys’ conference standings for the Jan. 27 crossover games.

In addition to Monday night’s West Vigo-Sullivan and tonight’s OV-Edgewood game, Cascade travels to Indian Creek on Saturday for the final WIC divisional game of the year.

Edgewood has clinched first place at 4-0 and Owen Valley has clinched fifth place at 1-3, so their game tonight will not affect the pairings. Brown County has also clinched sixth place at 0-5.

The winner of Monday night’s Sullivan-West Vigo game will be in second place in the West Division, with the loser taking third.

Indian Creek would clinch second place in the East Division with a win on Saturday, winning a head-to-head tiebreaker over Cloverdale. A Cascade win over Indian Creek would create a three-way tie for second.

Here would be the pairings if Indian Creek defeats Cascade on Saturday:

1st/2nd place – Northview at Edgewood (will not change)

3rd/4th – Sullivan-West Vigo winner at Indian Creek

5th/6th – Sullivan-West Vigo loser at Cloverdale

7th/8th – South Putnam at Cascade

9th/10th – Greencastle at Owen Valley (will not change)

11th/12th – North Putnam at Brown County (will not change)
