James L. Giberson

James L. Giberson, 66, of Cloverdale, formerly of Mattoon, Ill., passed away at 1:40 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2017 at his residence.

Memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 30 at the Lake Land Church of Christ, 3480 U.S. Highway 45 in Mattoon, Ill. Rev. David Ferguson will officiate.

Burial with military rites conducted by the Greenup VFW will be in the Jack Oak Cemetery in Greenup. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the Lake Land Church of Christ.

The Edwards Funeral Home in Arcola, Ill., is assisting with arrangements.

James was born on June 8, 1950 in Mattoon, Ill. He was a son of George and Elsie (Ashby) Giberson.

He married Kathy Gordon on May 29, 1976 in Greenup, Ill.

He is survived by his wife Kathy; one son, Jason James Giberson of Worthington; one daughter, Chrissy Jo Baker of Cloverdale; two grandchildren, Coleton James Giberson and Caiden Jo Baker both of Cloverdale; one brother, Gene Giberson and his wife Angelena of Mattoon, Ill., and one sister, Jeri Osborne and her husband Richard of Chatham, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jack Giberson, and one sister, Judy Winnings.

James graduated from Mattoon High School in 1968.

He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War. James was a carpenter.

First and foremost he enjoyed spending time with his family. He also devoted a lot of time to the hunting sport of falconry. He was an avid boater. He was very funny and had a great since of humor.
