DePauw women win 18th straight; Tiger men fall to Hiram

DePauw shot 50 percent from the field and committed just five turnovers in a 99-54 North Coast Athletic Conference win over visiting Allegheny. The 11th-ranked Tigers improved to 21-1 overall and 13-0 in the NCAC with their 18th straight win, while the Gators dropped to 3-18 overall and 1-11 in conference play.

DePauw scored the final eight points of the first quarter in just 1:29 to grab a 27-12 lead at the quarter break. Blair Carlin started the run with a three-pointer before Kylie Morris added a three-point paly and Claire Ryan a layup off her own steal.

Carlin opened the second stanza with a three-pointer before Melinda Franke and Ryan hit buckets to push the lead to 34-12.

Allegheny's Delaney Arbore countered with a trey before DePauw scored 13 straight with five different players scoring led by four from Lex Gaumer. That gave the Tigers a 47-15 advantage on the way to a 51-20 lead at the intermission.

Morris posted a double-double with career highs of 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Ryan matched her 14 points. Taylor Howard added 12, while Gaumer posted career highs with nine points, six rebound and five assists.

Arbore led Allegheny with 19 points followed by Zoe Soilis with 16 and a team-high seven rebounds. Jazmen Moore dished out four assists.

DePauw hit 41-of-82 from the floor, while the Gators shot 28.4 percent. The Tigers held a 56-37 advantage on the boards and had a season-low five turnovers to the Gators' 14.

The Tigers return to action on Wednesday, February 8, when they host Denison at 6 p.m.

• Taylor scores 21 for SMWC— Sophomore Callan Taylor of Greencastle scored a team-high 21 points but the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women’s team fell 85-83 to Cincinnati Clermont on Saturday in Hamilton Arena to fall to 7-14 on the year.

Men

• Tigers lose sixth straight — At Hiram, Ohio, the DePauw men’s team suffered its sixth consecutive loss and slid down in the North Coast Athletic Conference standings following an 85-71 loss to Hiram on Saturday.

The Tigers now sit at 9-12 overall and 5-9 in the NCAC for seventh place with just four conference games remaining in the regular season. Hiram moves to 10-11 overall and 7-7 in the NCAC for fifth place.

DePauw failed to take the lead at any point during the game, trailing 37-31 at halftime. In the second half, Hiram only separated themselves further from the Tigers with a 48-40 margin.

Luke Lattner led the Tigers with 14 points and was the only Tiger to score in double figures. David Vogel scored nine, and Pete Feely came off the bench to score eight. Forrest Nettles tallied seven points and a team-high four rebounds in just nine minutes of action.

DePauw was outrebounded 42-28 and trailed in second chance points 23-11. They outscored Hiram’s bench 39-29.

The Tigers shot 48 percent from the floor (29-of-60) but just 22 percent (4-of-18) from 3-point range. They were also 60 percent (9-of-15) from the foul line.

The men return home Wednesday to take on Denison.
