Jazz at the Duck will return to The Fluttering Duck inside The Inn at DePauw on Thursday, Feb. 9 with Indianapolis trumpeter Clifford Ratliff as the first performer of the spring series.

Trumpet master Ratliff is a mainstay on the Indianapolis jazz scene.

Known for his soulful yet gritty style ala Lee Morgan, Freddie Hubbard and Clifford Brown, Ratliff has been a frequent collaborator with Indiana Avenue greats Jimmy Coe, Pookie Johnson, Russell Webster and David Young.

Joining Ratliff will be Indianapolis native Steven “Little Wes” Weakley, local/national/international drumming sensation Kenny Phelps and organist/DePauw professor Steve Snyder.

Jazz at the Duck will take place Thursday evenings from 8:30-10:30 when DePauw University is in session at The Inn at DePauw, 2 W. Seminary St., Greencastle.

Other upcoming concerts include:

• Feb. 16: Jam session featuring Sandy Williams and Randy Salman.

The house rhythm section of Veronica Peril, Bill Hamm and Rick Provine will be joined by Sandy Williams on guitar and Randy Salman on saxophone for a special evening of open mic jams.

• Feb. 23: Tad Robinson

Always a favorite in the Jazz at the Duck series, Greencastle’s own blues legend Tad Robinson will bring his incredible crew of musicians along for a great evening of blues and soul.

Jazz at the Duck is sponsored by The Fluttering Duck, The Inn at DePauw, DePauw School of Music, DePauw University Public Occasions Committee and The DePauw Office of Facilities Management.
