Funds still available for energy assistance

Thursday, February 9, 2017

Funds are still available from Energy Assistance Program through the Western Indiana Community Action Agency for families who have not received assistance since Oct. 2016.

The federally funded program helps low-income families with the high costs of energy by providing a one-time benefit to their heating and electric accounts during the winter months. More than 5,000 families from Vigo, Clay and Putnam counties are assisted each year from this program.

Applications are taken by appointment or through a mail-in process. Crisis appointments are available if utility service is disconnected or scheduled to be disconnected. Offices are open Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Applicants should bring:

• Verification of income for all household members 18 and older for the past 12 months

• Social Security cards for all household members

• Current heating and electric bills

•Lease/rental agreement or proof of ownership

• Proof of veteran status
