PUTNAMVILLE — Gov. Eric Holcomb will make his first appearance in Putnam County as governor on Thursday afternoon as he helps open the new shooting range at Deer Creek Fish and Wildlife Area.

Gov. Holcomb and First Lady Janet will make remarks as part of the 1 p.m. opening of the new range at 2 S. CR 200 West, which is west of Putnamville off of U.S. 40.

Deer Creek Fish and Wildlife Area came to be after the 2010 transfer of 1,962 acres from Putnamville Correctional Facility to the Department of Natural Resources, Division of Fish and Wildlife. Subsequent addition of parcels brough the total area to 2,161 acres.

The shooting range is the latest addition to the property that already allows for hunting and fishing.

The event is open to the public.
