Tigers defeat Wabash 70-50 for big Senior Night victory

No overtime was needed in this outing between DePauw University and Wabash College, as the Tigers sent their seniors home happy on Senior Night with a 70-50 victory on Wednesday.

After their last two meetings couldn’t be decided in regulation, the Tigers took control early and led throughout after tying the game at 8-8 early on.

Luke Lattner and Andrew Kus led the Tigers with a game-high 12 points. Kus added six rebounds. The senior Lattner capped off his final home game with a memorable 3-pointer with 35 seconds remaining before being subbed out for one last cheer from the home fans.

DePauw’s other senior, Nate Jahn, added 10 points and led the team with seven rebounds and four assists. Jack VandeMerkt also scored in double figures, adding 11 points and four rebounds.

David Vogel, Mason Hankins and Ethan Jarrett each scored seven points.

The Tigers shot 42 percent (25-of-60) from the floor, 33 percent (9-of-27) from 3-point range and 79 percent (11-of-14) from the free throw line. On the other side, Wabash shot 34 percent (21-of-62), 25 percent from beyond the arc (5-of-20) and 50 percent (3-of-6) from the foul line.

DePauw outrebounded Wabash 42-34 and outscored them in the paint 30-22.

The Tigers led 33-23 at halftime and kept a double-digit lead through the second half.

DePauw now holds a 122-89-1 lead in the series that dates back to March 3, 1903, and the Tigers improve to 27-7 against Wabash in Neal Fieldhouse.

Both teams now sit at 11-13 overall and 7-10 in the North Coast Athletic Conference in a tie for fifth place with just one game remaining on the schedule. DePauw travels to Oberlin on Saturday.
