CLOVERDALE -- The Cloverdale School Board approved one grant, accepted one donation and heard a favorable report on Dollars for Scholars during its Monday regular meeting.

President Vivian Whitaker announced that Dollars for Scholars has raised $13,585 so far with an estimated $2,000 more to come and $5,000 expected to come from a Putnam County Community Foundation endowment.

The donation was made by Martin-Marietta Cloverdale Quarry to Cloverdale Elementary School.

“It’s something they send every year unprompted,” Principal Brad Sandy said. “We’ve been getting it for several years.”

The grant approved was the Lilly Comprehensive Counseling Initiative Planning Grant announced last week.

“Cloverdale Community Schools did partner with Eminence and applied for the counseling grant through the Lilly Endowment Foundation,” Superintendent Greg Linton said, “and we were awarded a $30,000 grant to use those funds to investigate the possibility of various counseling initiatives that we can start here in our school corporation.”
