Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated three recent property-damage crashes.

• At 11:59 a.m. on Friday, David L. Thomas II, 25, Greencastle, was northbound on U.S. 231 on a 1993 Kawasaki ZX600.

Thomas told Special Deputy Josh Boller he felt something dragging in the rear portion of the motorcycle but continued. As he approaching County Road 350 North, Thomas discovered he was unable to turn left.

He then laid the motorcycle on its side at a speed of 30-40 mph. In doing so, he slid on his back across the pavement and into the ditch.

Thomas complained of knee pain but was released at the scene by medical personnel.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000. The vehicle was towed.

• At 4:04 p.m. on Thursday, Kyla R. Norman, 30, Roachdale, was northbound on U.S. 231 approaching Edgelea Drive in a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt. Holly M. White, 20, Darlington, was also northbound in a 2013 Dodge Durango.

Norman told Deputy Robert Soilleux she had stopped for a turning vehicle. White said she was also slowing down but became distracted reaching for an item that had fallen in her vehicle.

White’s SUV bumped the back of Norman’s car, causing less than $1,000 in damage.

Deputy Matt Biggs assisted at the scene.

• At 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 14, Ralph E. Price, 56, Terre Haute, was southbound on State Road 243 at County Road 700 South in a 2010 Kenworth tri-axle dump truck.

Price told Lt. Donnie Pettit he swerved right to avoid a vehicle that stopped in the road. The truck left the road and hit a guy wire, which broke off the top of a power pole.

The broken pole also pulled a service line from a nearby residence.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000. Capt. Tom Helmer assisted at the scene.
